Spring Wedding Color Trends for 2012

March 20th

pantone wedding colors 2012

Happy spring everyone! Even though winter wasn’t too bad here in Worcester this year, we’re all still itching for a taste of spring and with 70s forecasted for this entire week, we’re definitely getting it!

With spring, comes weddings, and Pantone has served up a truly beautiful collection of shades perfect for spring! From bold tones like Tangerine Tango and Cabaret to softer shades like Bellflower and Margarita there’s a little something there for every bride.  Try mixing unexpected shades together (like Tangerine Tango and Sweet Lilac) to really make a statement.

Choosing your wedding shoes

Ahhhh…shoe shopping! My favorite!  But before you head off on your hunt for the most fabulous pair for your big day, here are a few bits of advice:

  • Comfort is key! I’ll probably never say this about any other pair of shoes, but as fabulous as they are, you’re going to be standing ALL DAY, so if they’re uncomfortable in the store they’ll be even more uncomfortable after 8 hours on your feet.  There’s nothing less attractive than a bride hobbling around, wincing with every step.
  • Shop for shoes at the end of the day.  Your feet are smallest in the morning, but it’s mostly likely that your wedding will last well into the night.  Buying shoes at the end of the day will ensure the most accurate, most comfortable fit.
  • Have your dress altered with YOUR shoes.  Sure, your bridal shop or seamstress will have a few pairs of shoes lying around – but if you’re going to spend the money on the perfect dress, the tailoring should be perfect as well.  So make sure you bring your shoes with you to ALL of your fittings.
  • New shoes can be slippery.  Try gently rubbing the soles with a piece of sandpaper or lightly spraying the soles with aerosol hairspray to add a little traction.
  • Break those bad boys in!  Wear your shoes around the house to help break them in before the wedding.
  • Pick a heel height and shoe style you’re comfortable in.  Not used to wearing 5 inch heels? Then your wedding day is probably not the time to try them out.  The same goes for the style of shoe. Make sure to choose a style that you know is the most comfortable for you.  I, for example, never wear sling-backs.  That little strap will simply not stay put! So they wouldn’t be a good choice for me…as cute as they are!
  • Thinking about switching to flats or flip-flops during the reception? Think again.  Your seamstress has altered your dress to perfectly fit the height of your heels, switching to a different shoe alters both your posture and your height.  Do you really want your beautiful, white wedding dress dragging around on the floor all night?
A Few of my Favorite Things – Winter Edition

December 13th

As most of you know by now, winter is definitely not my favorite season.  However, the holiday season is really the “most wonderful time of the year” and it’s also the time when I can indulge in a few my favorite things! I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite holiday/winter items for all of you! Enjoy!

Favorite Things Winter 2011

I really know the holidays are here when I spot my first red Starbucks holiday cup! There’s something about taking that first sip of a Peppermint Mocha that really gets me in that holiday spirit!  What’s even better? A tall “Skinny Peppermint Mocha” is only 100 calories! You can enjoy the flavors of the season without the guilt!

So now that you’ve got your “Skinny Peppermint Mocha” in hand you can enjoy a few cookies! Everywhere you go this season there will be an abundance of cookies to enjoy – nothing wrong with that!  If you’re attending a cookie swap or looking for hostess gift ideas Martha Stewart has a library of delicious recipes for you to try as well as great packaging ideas!

This year I was introduced to the miracle of L.L. Bean’s Wicked Good Moccasins. If you have never had the pleasure of slipping your feet into these fluffy clouds of warmth and goodness I really suggest you do.  I had a smile on from ear to ear the first time I tried a pair on. Seriously, ask my sister.  It was borderline embarrassing.  Until I realized how warm and comfortable my feet would be this winter!

I actually don’t paint my nails that often.  But when I do I like to try something a little different.  OPI usually releases a collection of fabulous shades perfect for the winter season and the Swiss Collection is no disappointment!  My personal fav is “William Tell Me About OPI”.

Another seasonal favorite I look forward to all year is the release of Sam Adam’s Winter Lager.  This is definitely not a light beer but it’s still one of my favorites.  I actually look forward to most of Sam Adam’s seasonal releases but the richness of the Winter Lager makes it a perfect complement to the season.

Lip balm is actually a year-long addiction for me but I think the “peppermint tingle” of Burt’s Bees Lip Balm is perfect for the season! I keep one on my nightstand, one in my purse and another in my desk drawer.

Scarves are another year-long favorite of mine but I’m especially loving this one from ArtLab on Etsy. Infinity scarves are great because you don’t have to worry about how to tie them – you  can just throw them on and go!  I wear a lot of gray, black and white during the winter so this scarf will go with just about anything.

Finally, because you will eventually have to go out in the cold, a great pair of cable knit mittens is a must! These Pop-Top Mittens from Ugg Australia are fashionable and functional.  I’m a mitten gal because they really do keep your hands warmer than gloves but occasionally you do need to free your fingers to dig around your purse for things (lip balm most likely) so convertible style mittens are really great!

So there you have it – a few of the items that make the long, cold winter a little more enjoyable!
